Robert Gordon University (RGU) is committed to supporting the Scottish Government’s ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.
RGU Net Zero is the University’s sustainability framework, outlining commitments across operations, the academic offer, and its innovation environment.
Professor Steve Olivier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: “The evidence on climate change is clear and undisputed. RGU has a duty to act and help build a better world. Our sustainability framework, RGU Net Zero, sets out our action plan through campus activity, education, research, and innovation.” A key priority is strengthening the University’s globally recognised research in areas where its expertise can have the greatest impact. Projects range from examining the benefits of green infrastructure to reducing the environmental impact of rural public transport and developing critical subsea technologies.
A major investment is the National Subsea Centre (NSC). The UK subsea sector employs more than 45,000 people across 650 companies and represents a £7.5 billion industry, creating significant opportunities for research and innovation. Developed with the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, the NSC is a centre of excellence for research and innovation.
The University has also committed to embedding sustainability across it’s curricula and Net Zero Campus where it is identifying options to decarbonise heat demands and reduce water consumption in its buildings and to promote car sharing and low carbon travel.
RGU has a unique opportunity to shape the sustainability landscape by bringing to bear our strengths in teaching, research, innovation and industry partnerships.
