This website provides a set of information graphics led posters that have been created to raise awareness of Scotlands commitment to meeting its net zero emissions targets. The posters are designed for 11-18 year old pupils at secondary schools to highlight the challenges ahead and assist them with understanding the opportunities for achieving net zero in Scotland & the UK.
The project came about after a long discussion about the country’s energy crises between friends Iain and James. It quickly became obvious that there was a wealth of information on sustainability, renewable energy and net zero that parents, young people and children were not fully up to speed with and there might just be a way for a lecturer in communication design and an engineering professor to explain it through the medium of information graphics. ![]() As a parent with a son in secondary school and daughter in primary school Iain was very aware of the importance of giving the next generation the best start in understanding how they can help to achieve net zero when they are adults.
The people that are making decisions today regarding the countries future path will mostly be retired by 2045 and its our children who will deal with the choices that are made in the future.
To engage a younger audience a poster exhibition format was chosen as the best way to make the most impact on a busy school wall while providing an easy to engage in visual style to compliment classroom lessons. It also offers a resource that supports the 'Curriculum for Excellence' to help pupils gain the knowledge, skills and attributes needed for life in the 21st century.
It’s hoped that by assisting Scottish secondary school pupils to have a more in depth understanding of the country’s current use of fossil and renewable energy resources we can assist them to be better informed on the huge wealth of information on the topic and career opportunities that are available to them in the future.
